Spiritual Food - A must for the Growing Christian
- Spiritual Food - A Must for the Growing Christian
We all know the story. Just after Jesus got baptized, he went into the wilderness and fasted for 40 days and 40 nights. After this it is only natural that he would be hungry and a bit weak. The Devil now took advantage of this weakness to try and tem
Spiritual Fruit
No, I don’t mean regular fruit but spiritual fruit. What is spiritual fruit?
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23)
So how do we go about bearing spiritual fruit?
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bear much fruit, for without me you can do nothing” (John 15:4-5)
Jesus Christ is the vine, and once we stay connected to him, we will bear much fruit, and good fruit at that.
Now, in order for us to stay connected to Christ, the vine, we must have the gift of the Holy Spirit. How do we receive this gift?
Repent to Receive the Holy Spirit
"Repent, and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38)
Yes, we must repent. Now some people are intimidated by the word repent. As a matter of fact they believe that repentance means giving up everything they enjoy doing – to live a boring life. But this is not what repentance is about, unless, of course you really choose to live a boring life. Repentance is about giving up all the negative and unproductive aspects of your life and adopting positive life changing activities. It is the best way to improve your life for the better. Jesus said “I came that you may have life and have it more abundantly”.
Jesus wants us to have an abundant life. Staying connected to Him to bear good fruit means enjoying a happier and more fulfilling life. God’s spirit is like the water and fertilizer needed to nourish the fruit tree in order for it to remain healthy and continue producing good fruit.
Difficult times are ahead, so let us then use our spiritual fruits, not only to improve our lives but to encourage and help each other, because this is what bearing spiritual fruit is really about – our relationship with others.
